Shamanic Healing FAQs

What is Shamanism?

Shamanism is a way of life and a set of practices rooted in animism, which centres on perceiving and engaging with the spiritual essence present in all things. Shamans perceive nature as interconnected and view themselves as equals to the natural world. Their focus is on establishing and nurturing their connection with the entire web of existence. A key principle in shamanism is reciprocity, where offerings are made to the spirits without expecting anything in return. The Q'ero medicine people of the Andes refer to this principle as Ayni. Shamanic practices, in various forms, can be found in cultures and traditions worldwide and are gaining visibility in Western societies.

Is Shamanism A Religion?

Contrary to popular belief, Shamanism is not a formal religion but rather a way of life. Shamans do not engage in the worship of specific deities or gods, but rather establish close relationships with diverse spirits. The specific spirits with whom a Shaman works are highly personal and can vary depending on the individual and cultural context. Typically, Shamans establish a deep connection with the elements and the natural environment, aiming to cultivate a relationship of equality with them through acts of reciprocity.

What Does A Shaman Do?

A Shaman is an individual who engages with altered states of perception. Unlike the Western perspective that primarily focuses on the material world, Shamans operate within the realm of perception. Their purpose is to act as intermediaries between the physical world and the world of energy or the invisible realm. Through extensive training, Shamans acquire the ability to navigate different realms and communicate with various aspects of the spirit world. They use this ability to offer healing and insights that bridge the gap between the physical and spiritual dimensions.

How Does Shamanic Healing Work?

Shamanic Healing does not directly target the physical body but instead focuses on the energy body, known as the Luminous Energy Field. Within the energy body lies the information and programming that shape our physical experiences. Consequently, everything we hold onto at the physical and emotional levels manifests as imprints in the energy field. The primary purpose of Shamanic Healing is to address the toxic energies ingrained in the energy field, facilitating the client's healing process. By removing the heavy energies associated with specific wounds, it becomes easier to modify behaviours and patterns. Additionally, this unleashes the power of the immune system and accelerates physical healing.

What Can Shamanic Healing Work With?

Shamanic Healing encompasses a wide range of issues and challenges, including but not limited to profound trauma, ancestral curses, soul fragmentation, the effects of black magic, attachments to entities or spirits, psychic attacks, past life influences, inner child healing, and various other concerns. It offers a comprehensive approach to addressing these issues through spiritual and energetic practices aimed at promoting healing and restoration.

How Successful Is Shamanic Healing?

Shamanic Healing stands out as an exceptionally direct form of therapy because it delves into the core of an issue beyond its surface-level manifestations. Instead of fixating on the literal illness, emotion, or narrative, Shamanic Healing aims to uncover the underlying reasons behind their emergence. By addressing the root cause, profound healing can be unleashed. However, it's important to note that the depth of healing facilitated by the spiritual realm is contingent upon the client's readiness to explore it. Therefore, the success of any therapeutic work, including Shamanic Healing, is largely dependent on the client's intention and willingness to heal and grow. It is often observed that Shamanic work yields optimal results when the client possesses a strong intention to heal and transform their lives for the better.

Can Shamanic Healing Work With Physical Illness?

Shamanic Healing is capable of identifying the underlying cause of an illness and removing the associated energetic imprints, but its purpose does not involve curing physical ailments. Shamanic Healing operates within the realm of energy medicine, focusing on promoting healing, whereas Western medicine is primarily concerned with treatment. It is crucial to avoid conflating these two approaches, as energy medicine is often mistakenly accused of attempting to replace Western medicine, which is not the case. To illustrate this distinction, consider the example of being bitten by a venomous snake: one would seek medical treatment from a doctor to address the physical consequences while consulting a Shaman would involve exploring the deeper reasons behind the snake bite in the first place.

How Often Should I Receive A Shamanic Healing?

The frequency of receiving Shamanic Healing varies greatly depending on the individual client and the depth of the issue being addressed. Unlike talk therapy, Shamanic Healing is not typically performed frequently because the sessions have a tendency to quickly access the core of the issue. However, it's important to note that healing is an ongoing process that involves peeling back layers over time. Some clients may find that a single session feels complete, while others may require multiple sessions to delve into the core of their healing journey. As a practitioner, I offer both standalone sessions and options for block sessions, allowing flexibility based on the specific needs of each client.

What Tools Does A Shaman Use?

Shamans employ a diverse array of tools during rituals and healing sessions, each serving a distinct purpose in the process. These tools commonly include sacred songs, drums, rattles, feathers, ceremonial swords, as well as stones and crystals. However, it is important to note that the specific tools utilized can vary from one Shaman to another, based on their personal practices and traditions.
